Fancy getting out and enjoying the great outdoors this summer? Bedfordshire is full of beautiful countryside to explore, making it an excellent destination for those trying to escape the city in the warm weather. To help you make the most out of your trips to the county, here are three lovely walks that the whole family can enjoy – what’s even better is you can enjoy some stunning scenery and still be assured that you are near civilisation!

Clophill and Haynes circular walk

If you’re not an experienced rambler or have small children, this is a good choice for a walk – as a circular route, you can’t get lost and will always end up back where you started. It does stretch along six miles but it is an easy route, which mostly features footpaths and lanes which are easy to find and mostly level.

Barton-le-Clay

This walk starts and finishes in Streatley and takes you from the pub through the countryside, so you can enjoy a fortifying drink before you set out and promise yourself one as a reward for making it back! This route is a little more challenging, as it is a bit longer and has a few steep bits, but generally speaking is a fairly easy route with lots of lovely places to stop and enjoy the countryside.

Ampthill Great Park walk

This 18th century former hunting ground is a lovely place to spend a few hours exploring, there are a host of walking trails for you to follow and there’s a play area – perfect for the kids!

All the walking trails are sign posted, so feel free to explore at your own leisure.
