Four bears have been pictured letting their fur down at Whipsnade Zoo this week, galloping around their wooded home before cooling off in their pond, as they soak up some July sun.

A vulnerable, red-crowned crane hatchling has received a clean bill of health from vets this week at Whipsnade Zoo and will soon join an international breeding programme designed to protect the species' future.

A flamingo chick has been adopted by new parents after being abandoned as an egg - first spending a month in an incubator where dedicated zookeepers could ensure the hatchling's survival.  

A prehistoric site has been discovered in Bedfordshire. Around 25 monumental puts dating back to the Mesolithic period, which was between 12,000 and 6,000 years ago have been uncovered in Linmere, much to the amazement of archaeologists.
