Looking for ways to stay entertained this half term? Well, luckily, there are attractions and activities all over Bedfordshire throughout February and beyond. Take a look at some of these suggestions and plan a half term you’ll remember!

If you want to burn off the kid’s excess energy, book a session at Go Ape Woburn.  Located at the famous Safari Park, Go Ape Woburn offers you the chance to swing through the treetops while catching glimpses of the animals in their habitats. Everyone gets a safety briefing before being let loose to have the adventure of a lifetime. You can even make a full day of it by rounding off your day with a visit to the Safari Park

itself. During half term, there are a host of hands-on activities and workshops being held for kids aged 8 – 17 where you can find out what it is like to be a zoo keeper! Just an hour away from London, Oxford, Cambridge and Birmingham, this is a great day out for anyone who wants to escape the city for a few hours.

If animals are your thing, there is also the option to visit ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.  Stretching over 600 acres on the Chiltern Hills, Whipsnade Zoo is home to around 3000 animals, so every visit is a new experience. Over half term, there is a range of workshops where you can learn more about being a vet, with relaxed sessions also being offered on selected dates. Visitors will be welcomed into an animal hospital and will see examinations and treatments up close!

Perhaps you want to get out of the city and enjoy some adventure activities this half term. Canoe Trail is a family run watersports and adventure business offering canoe, kayak and SUP rentals on the River Ouse, as well as a host of other fun activities. The site is just half an hour from Milton Keynes and around an hour from London and with public transport links, provides an entertaining day out without having to travel too far.

Outdoor adventures are on offer throughout Bedfordshire, Greensand Country is a huge area of parkland that features heathland, woodland, rivers and more and really allows you to get out in the fresh air. Whether you want to go for a walk, get on your bike or enjoy a spot of horse riding, there is something for everyone here, plus during the school holidays you can often find additional activities and workshops, such as trails and exhibits. Similarly, the Forest of Marston Vale is a great day out for the whole family. With 18km of level pathways, hides to help you catch sight of the resident wildlife, a wetland nature reserve and more open space than you can imagine, you can really have an adventure or two here. The park is open 365 days a year, so you can catch a sunset, a sunrise or head over there for a lunchtime stroll and has a number of accessible facilities, so everyone can join in the fun.

Just over an hour from London is Herrings Green Activity Farm on the outskirts of Bedford. Home to over 200 birds of prey and a host of other animals, there is always something going on here. Every day there is a full programme of activities where you can meet and handle the birds and get up close with the other animals on site, as well watch a fantastic flying display. This half term there are activities taking place all day from 10.30 onwards with snacks being served later in the afternoon for the kids.

Another option is spending the day exploring the Shuttleworth Collection.  Not only can you find a beautiful stately home here but there is also the Swiss Garden and one of the largest collections of flying vehicles in the UK. History buffs will love the WWII aircraft, the oldest working aircraft and exhibits that show off these amazing flying machines. Located just off the A1, Shuttleworth is easy to find, but not as easy to leave!
