Ampthill to Maulden Circular Walk

This one is perfect if you want to be able to see the season changing in front of you, it takes you through some beautiful countryside, including the breathtaking Bedfordshire Hills before passing ruins at Houghton House.

How to get here
By car – Ampthill is around 1.5 hours from central London taking the M1
By public transport – there are trains from St Pancras to Flitwick  or Euston to Milton Keynes where you can get a connection to Ampthill.

Bedford Park

Bedford Park is just outside of Bedford Town Centre and there is a lovely trail that takes you around the trees, perfect for seeing autumn coming into effect. There are several different tree trails for you to explore, find out more here

By car – Bedford Park is just under two hours from Central London via the M1 or the A40/M1
By public transport – There is a direct train to Bedford from St Pancras station and the park is just a short walk from the station.

Biggleswade Common

Biggleswade Common is the largest area of common land in the whole of Bedfordshire, so it’s perfect for anyone who wants to get outdoors and enjoy some wide open space. There are four different circular walks around the common where you can enjoy different habitats and see which animals you can spot on your way around.

By car – the Common is just over two hours from the centre of London via the A1 or the M1.
By public transport – There are trains from St Pancras to the station at Sandy which is around half an hour on foot from Biggleswade Common, or there are bus connections from Biggleswade station.
