A new self-guided walking tour has launched in Bedford, allowing anyone with a smartphone or tablet to take part whenever they like, with printed maps available for those that want them. The tour lasts around 45 and stops off at some of the key locations in the town, including the John Bunyan statue, the Silver Street faces and St Paul’s Church.

The project is being led by Invisible Folk and Bedford Borough Council as part of the High Street Heritage Action Zone. Tony Calladine, the Regional Director for the East of England at Historic England, told reporters: “It’s great that the Bedford High Street Heritage Action Zone Cultural Programme is sharing stories of Bedford’s people in such an engaging way. I am particularly delighted that through this walking tour, the voices of local people are being heard alongside more famous residents.”

The audio tour is available online here and printed maps can be collected from the Higgins Bedford.
