Bedford Borough Council and Bedford BID have announced three weekends worth of festive fun in the town centre on the lead up to Christmas.

The run up to Christmas will include markets, events, entertainment and activities, many of which will be free, instead of the usual festive fireworks display. It is hoped that these new plans will be better for local businesses and will be more covid safe.

Speaking about the planned events, Bedford’s Mayor, Dave Hodgson, said: “After last year’s restrictions I am really excited that we can get some great outdoor events happening in the town centre on the run up to Christmas this year. Rather than planning one big event, we’re planning three whole weekends of fun alongside BedfordBID.”

As well as the events that have been planned, residents and visitors alike can look forward to the Christmas Lights switch on which will take place on 22nd November.

Mayor Dave Hodgson continued: “There are plenty of reasons to visit our town centre and in the run up to Christmas, there will be even more reasons to come in, get your Christmas shopping done and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Bedford town centre also has a fantastic array of independent shops and businesses, delivering experiences and goods that you won’t find online. So, please come on in and support your town centre and its brilliant businesses.”
