Tom Grennan, the chart topper originally from Bedford, is now lending his voice to help young people in his home town by becoming ambassador for a local charity.

The Making Me charity empowers children and young people to stay mentally well through knowledge and resources and have said that they are incredibly grateful for the support from Tom and his enthusiasm in collaborating with them.

Speaking to reporters, Liz Fordham, Chief Executive Officer of Making Me, said: “Our aim at Making Me is to equip children with the power to thrive, whatever is happening in life. We are so delighted that Tom is joining us as Ambassador, his genuine passion and commitment to supporting the mental wellbeing of children and young people in Bedfordshire is infectious and the impact that he will make to the work we do is immeasurable.”

Making Me was founded 2018 and runs a programme of workshops in schools, looking after students aged from reception to Year 13, giving children the knowledge and skills that they need to build their resilience and support their mental wellbeing. Their aim is to equip children and young people with the ability to care for their mental wellbeing before they encounter difficulties and need specialist help. The charity believes that children benefit more from a preventative programme than school counselling on its own.

Talking about the charity, Tom Grennan, said: “Making Me is all about learning how to stay well upfront – don’t wait for it to become a problem. I want to remind everybody that asking for support is the biggest strength of all, never a weakness. The last 18 months have been to tough to everyone, we all need to make time to look after ourselves and each other.”

Since rising to fame, Tom Grennan has continued to support his home town of Bedford. During the first national lockdown, he used his voice as a platform to raise awareness for organisations in the Bedford community and even volunteered with the Bedford Foodbank. He was recently awarded with an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the University of Bedfordshire in 2019 for outstanding services to the arts. The local community continue to support him and his musical endeavours, his recent home town shows at Esquires completely sold out.
