Looking for things to do with the whole family while in Bedfordshire this summer? Look no further, here are a selection of family friendly activities to keep everyone entertained!

For the family that love animals and finding out more about the natural world, take a trip to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. There are over 3,000 animals living at this 600 acre site on the picturesque Chiltern Hills. It is thought to be the UK’s largest zoo and there are plenty of ways to explore the whole site, whether you choose to go by foot, bus, car or by hopping aboard the Whipsnade Steam Railway! There are even activities to enjoy if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

For the family that loves a bit of history, visit Shuttleworth, just outside Biggleswade. Shuttleworth is home not only to the Collection, a working collection of the best airworthy vintage aircraft in the UK, but also Shuttleworth House and the Swiss Garden, so there is something for everyone. Shuttleworth has plenty of free parking, outdoor play areas and even a restaurant, so you can easily spend the whole day there.

For the family that wants to see as much as possible, join in the Big Trunk Trail.  The trail of colourful elephants can be found all over Luton town centre and aims to raise money and awareness for Keech Hospice Care. It is free to take part in the trail and there are over 30 different locations to explore, an interactive app and a printed map are both available to help you find each one.

For the family that wants to get hands on, check out the Hive. Located in Shefford, the Hive is an activity centre full of fun things for the kids to do while the parents relax in the café. With everything from arts and crafts to brain teasers, the Hive is a safe and secure place to let the kids blow off some steam – perfect for those rainy days.

For the family that wants an adventure, the Canoe Trail is the one for you. With canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards available to rent along the River Ouse, this is where adventures and great family memories are made. As well as the chance to get out on the water, guests also have use of the private woodland where you can spend the day creating dens, camping and roasting marshmallows over an open fire. It is ideal for anyone wanting to instil a little digital detox.
