Heritage Open Days are returning this September, with a number of Bedfordshire’s top heritage attractions taking part.

Every single Heritage Open Day events are free, including those held on sites that usually charge for admission. This year’s theme for the events is Edible England, allowing visitors to discover more about food production, local specialities and how food production has evolved over the years.

There are several events taking place across the county this year. Take a look at some of the options here.

Shuttleworth
Where: Old Warden Park, Biggleswade SG18 9EP
What: a chance to walk around the Swiss Garden and Sculpture Trail as well as visits to Shuttleworth House and the Shuttleworth Collection
When: 15th September, 10 am – 5pm

Ridgmont Station Heritage Centre
Where: Station Road, Rodgmont MK43 0XP
What: visit the award winning Victorian Station House and boking office, the Station Masters Parlour and learn about the Marston Vale Railway Line.
When: 10th, 11th, 12th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th September, 10 am – 4pm.

John Bunyan Museum
Where: Mill Street, Bedford MK40 3EU
What: Learn more about John Bunyan, the author of the Pilgrim’s Progress by visiting the museum and library in person and online. The museum is hosting a special edible history day free of charge.
When: 18th September, 11am-4pm
No booking is required.

St Mary the Virgin Church
Where: High Street, Eaton Bray LU6 2DP
What: A chance to explore this 800 year old building in the heart of Bedfordshire. It is a chance to learn all about Bedfordshire Clangers and Aylesbury Prunes, as wella s see vintage recipes.
When: 11th September, 2pm – 5pm
No booking is required, simply turn up and enjoy!
