Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity (BedsRCC) won gold in the Community Business of the Year Award category, sponsored by London Luton Airport, at the SME Luton and Bedfordshire Business Awards on Tuesday (29 June 2021).

The awards, held at Bedford Corn Exchange, looked to recognise those small and medium-sized enterprises that had demonstrated the upmost dedication and innovation in the way in which they adapted to, and weathered, the Covid-19 pandemic. In the case of BedsRCC, this recognised the way in which their staff and volunteers have supported their local communities and those vulnerable residents over the last year.

BedsRCC CEO Tracy Cowan said, "We were up against some extremely worthy nominees this year, so this was a lovely surprise. Our staff have worked so hard over the last year during the pandemic and it's wonderful for them to be recognised in tis way. We're very proud of them all."

"Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are businesses whose personnel numbers are 250 employees or less. SMEs are also said to be responsible for driving innovation and competition in many economic sectors.

"We will now go through to the SME National Business Awards at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday 28 July 2021."
