This summer, a Summer of Send is being hosted in Bedford, with children, young people and partner organisations getting involved to encourage everyone to join in

Young people with SEND in the town have created a video to promote the Summer of SEND which will take place over June, July and August. The programme of events which focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities has been created by Bedford Borough Council, the Parent Carer Forum and BLMK CCG. It was originally intended to launch last summer, after a successful launch in 2019, but plans had to be put on hold because of Covid restrictions.

The programme will include a whole host of events, webinars, activities, workshops and more for anyone to take part in. These include SEND parenting sessions, training on Dyslexia and ADHD, with more spaces available to book as the summer continues.

Speaking about the Summer of Send, Cllr James Valentine, portfolio holder for Children’s Services and Education at Bedford Borough Council, said: “I am delighted to be able to launch Bedford Borough’s Summer of SEND. It has been a very difficult time and the pandemic has brought many challenges to families and professionals. We look forward to hearing from children, young people and their parents, carers and health professionals throughout the Summer of SEND during a fantastic, engaging summer of events and activities. Get involved and join us this summer.”
