Mother’s Day isn’t just a day to celebrate mothers, you can use it to show appreciation for all the women in your life, so if you’re looking for things to do for Mother’s Day this year, why not escape the city and spend some time in Bedfordshire? The beautiful countryside offers much in the way of relaxing walks, the parks are great locations for a family picnic and the region’s history and attractions give you plenty of things to do that will amuse the whole family.

Go for afternoon tea

As the concept of an afternoon tea was invented in Bedfordshire, so called by the Duchess Anna Maria, wife of the 7th Duke of Bedford back in the 1800s it would be rude not to have one. Treat your mum to one of the many varieties of afternoon tea on offer in the county, many of the region’s luxury hotels have afternoon tea menus as do the cafes and eateries.

Book her in for a spa

If your mother figures are anything like ours, they work far too hard. Give them the chance to relax by booking them in for a spa and a few treatments. There are a number of spa hotels and resorts in the county offering pamper sessions for just mums or for the two of you if you fancy going along with her.

Go for a walk around the countryside

Bedfordshire is full of beautiful places to visit and the spring time is an ideal time to explore. The Dunstable Downs and the Chilterns both have incredible views and offer a number of walking trails. The Whipsnade Tree Cathedral is also worth a visit for somewhere quiet and relaxing, while places like Marston Forest and Greensand County have outdoor activities for the whole family. Alternatively, rock up to one of the parks and enjoy the landscaping.

Go to a museum

As well as green spaces, the region is also full of heritage attractions with gardens, stately homes and museums that all give an insight into how life has evolved in the region over the years.
