Government advice is to self isolate where possible, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay stuck indoors for the duration, you are still able to explore wide, open spaces as long as you keep the recommended distance from other visitors. When it comes to enjoying the outside spaces in the county, the National Trust are here to help.

While they are having to close many of the shops, properties and tea rooms in order to help limit the spread of Covid-19, they are keeping as many of their gardens and parks open as possible. These combined with the countryside areas that they manage, mean that you have plenty of options when it comes to getting out of the house in a safe environment.

The National Trust’s Director-General, Hilary McGrady, said the following in a statement on their website: “The National Trust was founded 125 years ago for the benefit of the entire nation. We want to honour our mission to enable people and nature to thrive. Over the coming weeks, we will do all that we can to keep on providing public benefit through caring for places and giving people access wherever possible. While we will close our indoor areas to help fight the spread of coronavirus, we recognise that people are likely to need access to open space.”

Of course, we advise that you check with the individual properties before you travel in case the situation changes, but here are some suggestions of National Trust spaces you can visit in and around the county.
