Bedfordshire is full of open countryside and has plenty of parks and green spaces to enjoy, whether you have a furry friend or not. Whether you have a dog and want some inspiration of places to explore with them or you just want to spend some time in the country seeing how many different dogs you can spot, here is a list of our favourite places for dog walking.

Dunstable Downs
Dunstable Downs is a National Trust site and we all know that they welcome dogs wherever they can! The Downs offer incredible views and with the far reaching grassland, there are plenty of spots for your dog to explore, so whether they have long legs or short ones, they’ll love running about on the Downs and you’ll enjoy the beautiful landscape.

Greensand Ridge
This walking trail is great for a number of reasons and is popular with dog walkers because of how diverse the trail is, you’ll find flat spaces, open spaces, hills, wooded areas… Just about every environment you can think of which makes it very exciting for your four legged friends. It’s also a great walk all year around and watching the changing of the seasons in the leaves and flowers is a real joy.

Ampthill Park
If you’re looking for somewhere the whole family can get involved in the dog walks, this is a great choice. There is something for everyone at this site, including a play park and even a dog friendly café, so you and your dogs can stop for refreshments.

The Firs
We’re including this one because it’s not that far from Ampthill Park in distance, but it looks like it should be a million miles away, the landscape is completely different and has a good mix of woodland and heathland, giving your dog plenty of places to explore. For those of you who aren’t local and aren’t sure where on the map this is, look out for Cooper’s Hill, you’ll find it near Ampthill Rugby Club.

Priory County Park
This park in Bedford is hugely popular, not just with dog walkers, but also those who want to get out and about and enjoy the countryside. The landscape includes meadows and a lake complete with a little dog beach area, just remember to bring a towel if you’re planning on driving them home!
