If you’re visiting one of the many towns and villages in Bedfordshire this half term, you’ll no doubt be looking for something to do to entertain the kids. Well, don’t fear, you’ll find plenty of ideas on our what’s on page (or click here for events taking place during half term) but if you need any more inspiration, read on!

It doesn’t matter where in the county you are, you’ll find plenty to do this half term, so whether you’re stopping over on your way to warmer climes and are based in Luton, or you just fancied escaping the city for a few days and wanted to visit the countryside, here are a few ideas to get you started.

Visit a museum

We know, they’re on a break from school, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t keep learning while having fun this half term. Bedfordshire is full of fascinating history and has links to British royalty, plenty of connections to World War Two and lots of interesting buildings to explore. In Bedford, you can visit the museum dedicated to John Bunyan, the writer of the Pilgrim’s Progress and one of the town’s most well known exports. The museum is free to visit and has a whole host of activities for the children too.
If you’re in Luton, the Wardown House and Museum and the Stockwood Discover Centre are both good choices for keeping the kids entertained or for something a little different, tours are available of Jordans Mill and Gardens.

Explore the great outdoors

Obviously, this will depend largely on how kind the weather is, but Bedfordshire is full of green spaces for you to explore. Why not visit Greensand Country and head down many of the walking trails for a few hours, or spend some time in Wrest Park?
Dunstable Downs has some amazing views and plenty of space to run around and many of the county’s stately homes have incredible gardens that the whole family are welcome to explore.

Visit some animals

Not only does Bedfordshire have an abundance of wildlife which can be seen when out and about in the countryside but there are a wide range of animal attractions too. Why not spend some time at one of the farms or small holdings that hold activities? It’ll give the kids a chance to learn more about the industry and to pet some cute animals. Alternatively, ZSL Whipsnade Zoo can be found in Dunstable where there are seasonal activities as well as the usual things you can expect from visiting the zoo. Woburn Safari Park is also a delight and the estate has plenty of things to see and do.
