When the sun is shining we all want to be outside, luckily for those of you who find yourself in Bedfordshire this summer, there is an abundance of beautiful outdoor spaces for you to enjoy, including a variety of parks and gardens to spend a lunchtime or two in.

The gardens at Woburn Abbey

The whole village of Woburn is a delight with its lovely Georgian architecture and the abbey estate is a wonderful place to visit. The exterior of the abbey is a 42 acre Victorian style garden with several interesting plants and some exquisite landscaping which the green fingered amongst you will love. The space has a few different gardens laid out in a variety of styles so there will always be something to surprise you.

The Swiss Garden

Found in the Old Warden Park in Biggleswade, the Swiss Garden is a great spot for picnics with its dedicated picnic area but is also ideal for anyone wanting to while away the hours and wander around winding pathways and tiny woodlands. The garden gets its name from the Swiss style chalet in its centre, as you make your way to it you will pass ornate bridges and landscaped ponds. Visiting in the summer also gives you a chance to see the gorgeous flowers that are planted and maintained throughout the year.

Wrest Park Gardens

This garden in Luton has been named as one of the most spectacular in England. Originally built over 150 years ago, the garden was inspired by those at the Palace of Versailles. Visitors can lose themselves in the Italian garden, the Orangery and the Chinese Pavilion. There are also a number of little nooks and crannies to hide away in as you make your way around as well as interesting features like statues, bridges and more.

Stockwood Park

This public park is made up from what was once the grounds of a stately home. It now consists of a variety of well-maintained gardens each themed around a certain time period, the most popular of which is the Victorian garden.

The Embankment Gardens

This park which dates back to the 1800s can be found in Bedford and is a well maintained public park with places for children to play, a boating lake and plenty of space to relax in the sunshine. Plus being in the centre of Bedford, you’re close to all the major attractions and amenities.

If you spend any time in these gardens over the summer, make sure to snap a picture and share it with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
