About

Greensand Country Festival 27 May 2018 – Warden Abbey, A Geophysical Survey

As part of the Greensand Country Festival, from 10am until 4pm on 27th May, Old Warden History and Heritage Society will display the results of a geophysical survey (2017) of the site of Warden Abbey (Cistercian monastery, 1135 – 1537).

Visitors will be able to view the C14 stained glass window given to the church by Abbot Walter Clifton, and a monastic grave slab. From the churchyard visitors can see Quince Hill (private, no access), a Norman ringwork and likely brithplace of the founder of the Abbey, Walter Espec.

Members of the history society will be on hand to answer questions.

Event will be held at St Leonard’s Church, Church Lane, Old Warden, SG18 9HD.

No booking required.
