6th March...On this day in 1944 as the curtain was drawn back to uncover the large map of Europe at the morning briefing a gasp of excitement echoed around the room as the aircrews witnessed that the red yarn showing the mission track for the day took them to Berlin. A while later the now apprehensive crews climbed aboard their B-17s, and the 27 aircraft lifted off the runway at Thurleigh on this special occasion.
